Effective date: July 7, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how the Penny General Android app and the pennygeneral.net website (together, the “Service”) handle information. Penny General is an unofficial tool for tracking publicly posted Dollar General penny lists. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to Dollar General.
Information we collect
The app does not require an account and does not ask for your name, email, phone number, contacts, or location. Specifically:
- No personal profile. There is no sign-up or login in the app.
- On-device only settings. The app stores the server address you choose
(default
http://pennygeneral.net) locally on your device. It never leaves your device. - Camera / barcode scanning. If you use the scanner, the camera is used only to detect a barcode on your device. Images are processed locally and are not stored by the app or transmitted to our server.
- Standard server logs. Like any website, our server may automatically record basic technical request data (such as IP address, date/time, and the item or list requested) for security and reliability. This is not used to identify you and is not sold.
How we use information
- To serve the current penny lists and item details you request.
- To operate, secure, and troubleshoot the Service.
Sharing
We do not sell your data and we do not include third-party advertising or analytics SDKs in the app. We do not share information with third parties except as required to operate the Service (for example, the hosting/network infrastructure that delivers our website) or where required by law.
Data retention
Server request logs are retained only for a limited period for security and diagnostics, then discarded. Settings stored on your device remain until you change them or uninstall the app.
Children’s privacy
The Service is intended for a general audience and is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Security
We take reasonable measures to protect the Service. Note that the app communicates with the penny-list server over plain HTTP by default; do not transmit sensitive personal information through it.
Your choices
You can stop all data processing by uninstalling the app. You can change or clear the stored server address at any time in the app’s Settings.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the effective date above.
